SENATOR KENNEDY USES NEWSOM’S OWN QUOTE TO SILENCE HIM PERMANENTLY AFTER HE SAYS “dislikes nothing more than a politician who lies.”

WASHINGTON — It was meant to be a soundbite about integrity. California Governor Gavin Newsom, appearing before a congressional panel, attempted to take the moral high ground by declaring: “There is nothing I dislike more than the politician who sits there and lies to you.”

It was a powerful statement. Unfortunately for the Governor, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) was sitting across the aisle, ready to enforce it.

The Setup: A State in Ruin

Kennedy didn’t interrupt immediately. He waited, letting the irony of the statement hang in the air. Then, he began to list the realities of California under Newsom’s watch—realities that contradict the Governor’s rosy public statements.

“Governor, you say crime is down, but shoplifting gangs are looting your stores in broad daylight,” Kennedy noted, ticking points off on his fingers. “You say you care about the working class, but your gas prices and taxes are crushing them. You preached lockdowns to your citizens while you dined at the French Laundry. And you say your state is a paradise, yet your people are fleeing in U-Hauls to Texas and Florida faster than from a burning building.”

The Fatal Blow

Newsom attempted to interject, but Kennedy raised a hand and delivered the line that stopped the hearing cold.

“Governor, you just said there is nothing you dislike more than a politician who lies to the people.”

Kennedy leaned forward, peering over his glasses.

“Well, with all due respect, looking at your record… if that is true, you must be the most self-loathing man in America. Because the only person you’re describing is the one you see in the mirror every morning.”

The Silence

The room braced for a counter-attack. Newsom is known for his quick, slick responses. But this time, there was nothing. The weight of the contradiction—hating liars while presiding over a state defined by broken promises—seemed to short-circuit his defense.

Witnesses described a stunned silence. Newsom opened his mouth, closed it, and then, in a moment that will be replayed endlessly on social media, simply looked down at his notes. He didn’t fight back. He didn’t spin. He effectively “dropped the mic” on himself, tacitly accepting that on this day, against this Senator, there was no lie big enough to cover the truth.

“Trump told the truth about the border, about trade, and about the deep state,” Kennedy added as he gathered his papers. “You might want to try it sometime. It stops the U-Hauls.”
